Dr Liz Griffin

Dr. Griffin graduated with honours from Sydney University in 1974. In 1988, she established one of the first cosmetic medical clinics in the country in Edgecliff Sydney and since then has always remained at the forefront of new cosmetic medical and beauty treatments.

At first, the only injectable available to Dr. Griffin was Zyderm – a purified and processed collagen made from cow hides. This product caused allergic reactions in 10% of patients and was not very long lasting. Most people only saw results for about three to six months. The collagen used today is synthesised human collagen. Although the allergy problem has been solved, the product still does not last as long as the fillers Dr. Griffin offers such as Restylane.

Dr. Griffin also initially used the first Australian-made copper vapour laser—serial no 001—for treating birthmarks and visible capillaries on the face. Despite being a very effective machine, it caused considerable pain and blistering for patients. Today’s new lasers and IPLs are a vast improvement; they are faster, less painful and cause very little in the way of side effects.

Dr. Griffin travelled to Paris to train with Dr. Pierre Fournier, the first person to transfer fat by injection. Prior to that, all fat transfer was done surgically with an open fat graft. Fournier’s revolutionary technique allowed patients to have the fat transfer procedure done without surgery or unattractive side effects.

Clinic-based liposuction was introduced to the clinic in 1992 and became a large part of the work done on site. Besides the treatment being less expensive and more suitable for a larger number of patients, people were relieved not to have to go to the hospital. Large liposuction procedures still remain hospital based.

In 1994, Dr. Griffin moved her clinic into a purpose built facility in Surry Hills. That was also the year BOTOX and Restylane were introduced, allowing her to offer patients even greater flexibility in treatment.

Since 2003, Dr. Griffin has been working in cosmetic medicine in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. She has now returned to her roots in the inner city, in a brand new, custom built clinic, located in North Sydney’s CBD.

The clinic provides numerous treatments and procedures using the latest technology with Dr. Griffin introducing the new Med Contour fat removal system. This ultrasound-based system is painless for the patient. It heats fat, causing the rupture of fat cells and the consequent excretion of that fat via the lymph system and the liver. This makes it far superior to the systems available to beauty therapists. Again, like clinic-based liposuction, it is used for the removal of exercise-resistant fat. Dr. Griffin can now remove fat from the areas patients most wish to reshape.

There are very few in the industry with Dr Griffin’s level of experience and commitment to providing you with the highest quality in cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Griffin’s qualifications are M.B., B.S. (with honours) FRACGP.
